Discussion
The Pallas Picture has certain deficiencies. Nevertheless it can be considered the only authentic illustration by the eyewitness Plenisner and approved by Steller.
The Pekarski Picture is based on the original sketch, however, the chartmakers have exaggerated, adding from their memory certain incorrect details.
Tsarskoye Selo Picture No. 1 appears almost caricaturistic, and cannot seriously be considered as plausible illustration of the three animals.
Tsarskoye Selo Picture No. 2 was probably drawn years later. Presumably the artist modelled it on the Pekarski and the Zarskoye Selo 1 illustrations. By using elements from Zarskoye Selo 1 the image makes it unsuitable as a credible illustration of the seacow, even though it may probably have met Waxell's approval.
